5 Ways to be More Mindful

As the kids get back into the swing of online school, I thought we could all use some mindful reminders to help us get through the next few weeks!

Being more mindful is really about choosing to step away from the noise and putting ourselves in a place of calm. It’s in that state we’re able to be more present and clear. Here are five simple ways to do it:

  1. Morning Meditation – Taking a few minutes in the morning to focus on our breath helps us better handle those stressful things that inevitably come up. Studies show meditating five minutes every day can make a big difference. Being consistent is key.
  2. Deep Breathing Before Meals – Another way to be more mindful is to take 3-5 deep breaths before you eat to help you slow down and be more present. Take time to notice how your food looks, how it smells, then how it tastes and feels.
  3. Practice Deep Breathing Regularly – Make it a habit to take deep breaths at specific times during your day. You can do it on a walk, in the shower, in the car… even while working on your computer like I’m doing right now.
  4. Express Gratitude – We all know how important it is to be grateful, but are we taking time to express our gratitude directly to others? When we do, it’s a win-win. Being thankful feels good and uplifts everyone.
  5. Journal & Reflect – Turning off electronics before bed and reflecting on our day helps us feel more at peace before we go to sleep. Write down all the good, but also what you want to do better moving forward.
There you go… five ways to be more mindful. I’m going to work on daily meditation. Which one are you going to do this week?
