My Take on Prebiotics & Probiotics
Did you know we have more bacteria in our body than we do cells? In fact, we’re made up of more bacteria than anything else!!
Crazy, right?!
So when your gut’s out of whack, it affects everything… digestion, energy, sleep, mental clarity, weight, even the foods you crave. That’s why a healthy gut is sooo important to good health.
When it comes to gut health, most people think about probiotics first. But that’s only one piece of it. Prebiotics are equally important.
While probiotics provide living strains of good bacteria that keep our gut healthy, prebiotics provide the plant fiber that feeds the good bacteria.
Essentially, that fiber is the fuel that keeps the good bacteria growing and multiplying so the bad guys don’t take over.
You can certainly take a prebiotic + probiotic supplement, which is best if you’re experiencing gut or health issues. But once you’re eating well and your gut is back in balance, you can get what you need from food.
Yes I know it’s easy to pop a pill, but it’s no replacement for eating the right foods.
Food is medicine — the better you eat, the fewer supplements (and medicines) you need.
