SuperBerry Smoothie
I love adding berries to my smoothies. They’re super high in antioxidants, anti-inflammatory, good for the heart and brain and even help prevent and fight cancer.
Surprisingly enough, all purple foods pack more nutrition:
- Purple carrots have 2x the alpha and beta-carotene as orange carrots
- Red/purple cabbage has a 36 different antioxidants (highest level of antioxidants per dollar) and 6-8x more vitamin C than green cabbage.
- Purple potatoes are 4x higher in antioxidants as Russet potatoes.
- Purple cauliflower has 15% more antioxidants than kale.
So add more purple foods to your shopping list and try to get 1-2 servings a day.
If you want an easy way to do it, make my SuperBerry Smoothie this weekend and let me know what you think! Enjoy!
SuperBerry Smoothie
Ingredients (choose organic when possible)
- 1 banana, frozen in chunks
- 1/2 cup frozen strawberries, blackberries or raspberries
- 1/2 10-ounce bag frozen wild blueberries
- 1 cup unsweetened almond milk (plus 1/2 cup more if needed for blending)
- 1 TBSP chia seeds
- 1 TBSP ground flax seeds
- 1-2 TBSP raw almond butter
- 1 serving greens powder
- 1 serving collagen peptide
- Few drops of liquid stevia, as needed for sweetness
Directions
Blend all ingredients except stevia in a high-speed blender. Add more nut milk as needed to blend. Once it’s well blended, taste and add a few drops of stevia if needed. Enjoy right away!
If you’d like to make a smoothie bowl, only add one cup nut milk and use the wand attachment to continually push down the ingredients while you blend. Having a high-speed blender like a Vitamix really helps.
