The Secret to Finding Happiness

Today I thought I’d touch on something we all experience… wanting something that feels good in the moment, but doesn’t serve us longterm.

Of course, that’s totally ok when it’s the occasional treat, but not so good for us if we habitually gravitate toward those unhealthy treats too often, especially to feel better in that moment.

Because feeling really good isn’t about that momentary bout of pleasure, even if it last for a couple of hours… which it rarely does.

True joy and fulfillment come when we’re making positive changes that help us feel good about ourselves. That’s where true happiness lies… when we’re working toward something and striving for our potential.

We all know things that would be better for us, but we hold ourselves back and stay with what’s familiar and comfortable. Maybe we feel too emotionally tied to those not-so-healthy things that bring us pleasure. Maybe we doubt our ability to change, so we give up on ourselves, on our true potential, and stay stuck where we are.

Those treats become our crutches after a long day or when we need a break from all the craziness in the world. Believe me, I get it. But striving for better is our true path to happiness and it starts with one change. That’s it.

You can choose one thing you currently do that you know doesn’t serve you and replace it with a healthy habit that will. Once you’ve got that down, choose another.

As we keep adding positive changes and strive to do better and feel better, we experience more joy. Working towards something and growing in that process is what makes us truly happy.

So tell me…. what action are you ready to take this week to get you closer to what you want? Let me know. I’d love to hear!
